Career Development

Is going through the Bermuda Job Board the only way that I can apply for a job?

Although it is the preferred way, it is not the only way to apply for Jobs in Bermuda. You can still personally deliver your resume and references to a prospective employer, or send them by email or mail. Please confirm the preferred method of the application directly with the particular employer. Always ensure that you are fully aware of deadlines when responding to a job vacancy.

I am unable to maintain gainful employment. How can the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) help me?

We can help you to prepare for Bermuda job opportunities by enrolling you in our in-house workshops and career training courses. We can also help you with resume writing and interview preparation, support you with career guidance, and provide you with professional development assistance.

Additionally, you should consider enrolling in a volunteer programme to build experience, practising your interviewing skills by performing mock interviews with a friend, and making sure that your skills match the employment opportunity.

When can I expect to hear from a prospective employer about a position that I have applied for?

Make a note of the deadline for applications to be received. Most employers are ready to respond to prospective employees within a month of the closing date.

Can I call a prospective employer after submitting an application form?

It is courteous to follow up with a prospective employer within one month of submitting your application. Have on hand all the information that you submitted to the employer to assist with your query.

I don’t have access to a computer. Does  DWD have any resources that I can use?

Computers are available for free to access the Bermuda Job Board and update your resume and cover letters. We can also print copies of your resume and cover letters for free. Registered clients may also obtain copies from their career development professional officer upon request.

Can I make an appointment to meet with a career development officer?

Yes, scheduled appointments are preferred. However, we will also accommodate walk-in appointments. Appointments are available from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Call 297-7714 for more information.
